Everything Wilson Golf Club…

Archive for September, 2008

I've been looking to buy a new set of beginners golf clubs, and the Wilson Hope Golf set has been recommended to me. I can get the regular Wilson Hope golf set for under $150, or i could pay a little over $100 more for the Wilson Hope LX set. I don't mind paying more for better quality, but I don't know how to justify it. Help!
Also, are there any sets women's beginners sets that are better than the Hope sets? I've noticed Wilson has a set called Prostaff, but it looks almost identical to the Hope LX set. I'm looking to spend $300 or less.
Thanks for any help!

The Wilson LX has a hybrid club which I'm finding to be an incredible club. I started my golf career with the Wilson Hope Set and they lasted a long time for me through many different skill levels. I highly recommend them. The additional money for the LX is well worth it. Hybrids are a lot easier to hit from the fairway than woods.

I have written a review of the Wilson Hope LX Clubs and two other sets on my website.

How far would a 2 and 3 nike sumo SQ2 hybrid golf club go with a full swing?,
and is it hard to hit them?

depends on body size, experience, and what your purpose of using them is. I'm about a 7 handicap, 190 pounds, 5'11'' and could probably hit the 2 hybrid 230 and the 3 hybrid 210 - 215. I have demoed one and again, the difficulty of hitting them is based on experience. I found it pretty reliable with a fairly big sweet spot and forgiving so if that's what you are looking for, I recommend it.

wilson 1000 ws golf clubs?

Posted by Jeff Blanket

are wilson 1000ws golf clubs good irons and are custom stainless drivers good drivers

Depends on whos hitting the sticks! Overall they are better values, but if you are a weekend type golfer, go for it. If you play 25 plus rounds per year, buy something nicer!

are wilson or macgregor golf clubs good?

Posted by Jeff Blanket

so i'm a beginner at golf and i'm looking at getting some used clubs off of ebay or something to get me started to see if i like it enough. i see plenty of used wilson and macgregor irons which is what i need. are these good? i know they arent cobra or taylor made or anything..

Those are fine sets for beginners. When you start playing 600 dollar golf, then you can get the 600 dollar clubs.

That fancy golf club on Mount Pleasant Rd has the best gingersnap cookies. I'm not a member. I only went a few times with my ex. I asked thier old pastry chef (she has a cake shop in Burlington) but she wouldnt give me the recipe (said it wasnt hers to give) If you know anyone who works there, their kitchen takes students interns, Please give me the recipe. Every year before the holidays I try to find it. Though I never tried actually calling the place and asking. (Too embarassed) I don't think they'd give it to me.

here it is..

Gingersnap Cookies Recipe

Ginger snaps are just about my favorite cookie in the world, next to oatmeal raisin. So imagine my delight in finding this recipe from a woman who got it while interviewing for at job at Chez Panisse. They are thin and crispy, and truly addictive. By the way, in place of parchment I've started to use silicone baking sheets for cookie making; nothing sticks to these mats and clean-up is a breeze.

8 oz unsalted butter
1 1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 small eggs or 1 1/2 large eggs
1/3 cup molasses
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/8 tsp. ground black pepper

1 Cream butter until soft; add sugar, and beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs, and beat until fluffy. Add molasses and beat until well-mixed.

2 Sift the dry ingredients; add to the mixture, 1/3 at a time. Mix only until the dry ingredients become incorporated.

3 Line a 9" x 5" loaf pan with plastic wrap, so that some hangs over the outsides. Press the dough into the bottom of the pan. Pack it tightly, and try to make the top as level as possible. Cover the dough with the plastic overhangs. Freeze until very firm, preferably overnight.

4 Unwrap and remove dough from the pan. Slice brick into thin slices, no more than 1/8". Place on a parchment-lined sheetpan (space at least an inch apart) and bake at 350 degrees until the edges turn dark brown, about 12 minutes.

I tried out our convection setting on the oven with these cookies, baking them at 325°F for 10 minutes and they came out perfect. I didn't use up all the dough with this batch, but because it's a frozen block, it makes it easy to store and bake the rest later. posted by elise

RockBottomGolf.com is currently offering 4 dozen Wilson Ultra Distance golf balls for $19.96, which is $4.99 a dozen. I usually play Slazengers, but wouldn't mind stocking up on these Wilsons at that price.

If you have played these balls, I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on them.
Here's the page at Rock Bottom: http://rockbottomgolf.com/wilson-ultra-ultimate-distance-golf-balls.html

They are pretty hard balls. Not a soft feel. If thats what you like, that sounds like an awesome price.
