IT’S NOT TOO HARD TO FIND MADE IN OKLAHOMA PRODUCTS AT ANY LOCAL GROCERY STORE.
AND BUYING THOSE PRODUCTS HELP MAINTAIN A HEALTHY ECONOMY IN OUR STATE.
Richard Wasson/ Made in Oklahoma Coalition “cuz the tax revenue comes back to the state Shawnee Mills for example is a company out of Shawnee Oklahoma they celebrated their centinnial 100-year-old company that makes flour, cornbreads when you buy their product the tax dollars stay in the state.”
RICHARD WASSON IS WITH THE MADE IN OKLAHOMA COALITION.
IT IS THEIR MISSION TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT PRODUCTS THAT ARE MADE RIGHT HERE IN THE SOONER STATE.
ONE OF THE WAYS THEY DO THAT IS THROUGH THE ANNUAL RECIPE ROUND-UP COOKING CONTEST.
CONTESTANTS ENTER RECIPES USING AS MANY MADE IN OKLAHOMA PRODUCTS AS POSSIBLE.
Roz Keimeg “so I just fancied up a taco-like salad and and just used as many made in oklahoma products as I could and we sampled it several times and came up with a final product.”
THAT FINAL PRODUCT INCLUDED INGREDIENTS LIKE HILAND DAIRY PRODUCTS, SHAWNEE MILLS CORNMEAL, AND HEAD COUNTRY SEASONING.
AND IT WAS THIS YEAR’S GRAND PRIZE WINNER FOR THE MADE IN OKLAHOMA RECIPE CONTEST.
“i’m going to get to pick out $7000 worth of Kitchen Aid appliances…”
THIS IS A FIRST MADE IN OKLAHOMA CONTEST FOR ROZ KEIMEG OF GUYMON.
AND IT HAS INSPIRED HER TO THINK ABOUT ENTERING OTHER COOKING CONTESTS.
“oh yeah, i’m working on the build a better burger contest right now and Paula Dean has a contest also so trying to work up some recipes for it.”
THESE TWO SISTERS, MARY SHIVERS AND LEAH LYON FROM ADA ALSO CASHED IN ON A LOT PRIZES FOR THEIR MADE IN OKLAHOMA RECIPES.
MARY SHIVERS WAS THE FIRST GRAND PRIZE WINNER FOR THE MADE IN OKLAHOMA COOKING CONTEST FOUR YEARS AGO.
IT WASN’T IT HER FIRST AND WON’T BE HER LAST.
Mary Shivers/ Ada “cooking is a hobby of mine and I enter a lot of recipe contests and it’s just something I really enjoy I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and I’ve just started doing that in the last 5 or 6 years.”
THE SISTERS SAY THEY ENTER IN COOKING CONTESTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
BUT THEY LIKE THE MADE IN OKLAHOMA CONTEST BECAUSE IT ALLOWS THEM TO USE PRODUCTS THEY ALREADY HAVE ON HAND.
Leah Lyon/ Ada “which is easy because the made in Oklahoma products are great and we use them in our day to day lives some of the other contests are not so easy.
