Hi, I am a high school student who needs a little golf help. I am joining my schools golf team and I do not know what clubs or what to buy in general. I have some dunlop rebel Graphite from 8th grade but I am too big for those now. My skill level is novice due to the fact I have not played in four years.
Usually the ones some sport shop wants to get sold. Seriously, you get the clubs which feel best to your touch and your swing. This is hard to explain. A good feel is having the club head right at the very bottom of the shaft. When you take a practice swing or two, it feels solid. The shaft seems to conform with the head and the confidence in the club starts immediately. A couple of balls hit at the range confirm the confidence. That is how every set I purchased was tested, by feel.
go with some taylormade r7 with steel shafts.

Seven sets of clubs purchased and used with a USGA handicap index of 11,5 at age 85 and as low as 2 in college some 58 years ago.
i would suggest any steel set of irons. For example, callaway x 20’s, taylormade r 7’s which are cavity backed for more forgiveness. If cost is an issue these are about $600 and you could get a cheaper set of clubs like wilson for $400 or less. I am in eigth grade and will be on the golf team next year and i have titleist ap2 irons which are half cavity backed and half blade (harder to hit). Good luck

Simple. Get the cheapest golf clubs you can get! As a guide, don’t spend more than $200. Why? As a novice your biggest weakness is going to be your swing, not your equipment. You’ll need to work on that first before looking to getting better clubs. Use the money you’ll save on a good PGA-certified instructor.
As a novice, getting clubs without getting sound foundational instructions is unwise. Without the fundamentals, it’s going to be very hard to advance in your game and you’ll end up developing bad habits that are going to be hard to break later.
Good luck.

taylormade R7 iron or callaway x 20 may suit you.
But i think you no need to buy an expensive set, maybe $400 is affordable

Don’t go all out, you won’t notice any difference to make it worth the extra cost of getting high end clubs. I have some some nice Taylormade steel shafts for cheap online. Whatever you get just go with the steel shaft unless you are ballin

Dude you want to get something that is max-game improvement since you haven’t played in a long time. Depending on how much you want to spend, look on ebay. You can find some really good clubs that are pre-owned and in good condition. Just be careful about which ones you buy. I’ve heard of people getting knock offs that were advertised as the real deal, however, I’ve bought several golf items off ebay and have not had that experience.
Suggestions: Mizuno MX900, Nike Pro Combo OS, Titleist 804 OS.
