Im willing to spend $500-600. I have no idea where to even start
Should I just go buy it from a golf store or should I get a certificate for custom made golf clubs?
What is the benifits of custom made anyways?
OH he's left handed does that make a difference?
take him to a demo day so he can get fit for them. look at company web sites for days and times
get him a gift card so he can get what he wants

I'd definitely visit the GOLF section of http://www.shopallstoresonline.com….lots of choices there. They have just about everything - I got a computer there a couple of weeks ago and looked at the golf section as well.

Go to Scheel's or any other sporting store. Sets of golf clubs cost about $199 and up. Left-handed cost a little more also.

Get him a gift certificate my dear. His height…his stance all have to do with him getting the proper clubs.. It is like him buying you clothes..you would want to try them on 1st to make sure they fit correct;y and you liked how you look in them and the comfort factor as well

No Gift certificate…just tell him that you are going to take him to buy a new set. He needs to try them because the weight of the clubs and how vertically he swings all make a difference in clubs. Plus, you need to know about metal shafts or graphite and also about the grips. If you spend a lot of money on clubs that he doesn't like…then you have waisted a lot!

Golf since I been little (10 years)
Go to:
Golf Galaxy or
GolfSmith or
a golf specialty store so they can measure him for swing speed and club length. Being fitted for clubs will make the game much more enjoyable for him.
Being left handed makes a difference in that there may be fewer models in stock to choose from. I am a left handed golfer and sometimes I can't find the model that I like. It is getting better though, I think that Phil Mickelson and Mike Weir have made playing golf left-handed more acceptable.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buying clubs for him is like him buying makeup for you.
Its just NOT done.
1. Golf equipment is expensive. Get something he does not like and it is an expensive mistake.
2. Golf equipment is personal. Get something he does not like and he will break up with you.
3. Better to give him a gift certificate so he can decide what is best for his game.

Hi,
500-600.00 will not buy him a decent set of clubs. Give him a gift certificate at a golf store so he can use it toward a full set or get a nice putter or driver. Golf clubs like many other things are expensive, and you can't skimp. Cheap clubs/knock offs don't last very long and he won't like them. Also, once you hit them outside of the store you may not return them. He will love going in and shopping for the perfect set. Don't worry that you can't give him enough for a full set. Let him know you wanted him to have what he likes and this gift certificate can get him in the right direction. He can get custom fit with a name brand in most golf stores.
Some benefits of custom clubs rely on fitting his specific swing techniques with the clubs. He will be fit for swing speed and ball flight. The clubs will be specified to his strength and height, hand size, club weight and so forth. The main benefit will be knowing that you spend alot of money on something the fits him perfectly.
He must be oneheckofaguy to get a present like that, you are very sweet! Good luck!

Get him a gift certificate or card at a golf smith, golf galaxy, or another golf specialty store in your area. That way, he can go get exactly what he wants and he can get them fitted.
Don't worry about him being lefty……most companies carry left handed sets for all their different models. It may need to be ordered though.

There are several factors that a golfer will consider when getting a new set of clubs.
I would suggest a gift certificate to a local golf store. You can aso consider getting a gift certificate from a sporting goods store but make sure they have a decent golf section.
He will probably have an idea of what kind of clubs he wants but if not he can get advice from the salesman. Here is why I would recommed a store that specializes in golf, the salesmen there will probably have more knowledge about golf clubs then at the big-box sporting goods store.
For the money you are looking to spend there should be several sets of clubs availlable. Maybe not quite as many for a lefty, but still a few to select from.
And with a gift certificate he can also take into consideration other equipment like golf balls, a new putter, a shiny pair of shoes, etc…

There have been a lot of good answers here and I hope you have gotten the idea that it is not a good idea to just buy a set of clubs for him.. There are so many different styles and types of clubs and Golf is a very individual game. What is good for one player may not be the clubs another player likes of needs. You need to give your boyfriend a nice card stating your intentions to help him get a good set of clubs and you want to help pay for them. Tell him you love to see him play gold and you know how much fun he has at it and you want to be the one he things about everytime he goes play.

Golf clubs are tough to buy for someone because most golfers are very particular about their equipment. He'll also need to get fitted properly and will want to test the clubs first before buying so get him the gift card to a local golf store in your area that carries a wide variety of clubs…..helluva nice X-mass present…you did good.
